THE FUTURES READINESS
FRAMEWORK

Futures Readiness resources are underpinned by a distinctive framework of skills, attributes, values and competencies, developed in collaboration with Associate Professor Shane McLoughlin from the Jubilee Centre for Character & Virtues at the University of Birmingham.

While many soft and transferable skills taxonomies exist, the Futures Readiness framework uniquely integrates timeless skills such as critical thinking, effective communication and problem-solving with those specifically tailored for an increasingly AI-driven world, including attentive concentration, continuous upskilling, adaptability, resilience and digital disconnection.

Although AI literacy remains essential to preserving our future agency, Futures Readiness places particular emphasis on the cultivation of Human Intelligence (HI) and the pursuit of genuine human flourishing.

VIEW FROM ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR SHANE MCLOUGHLIN

“It has been a pleasure to work in collaboration with Alex Zarifeh in categorising the Futures Readiness framework. Only two years ago, meaningful AI that could disrupt the world of work seemed like a distant sci-fi fantasy. Today, AI can already think better than humans can in several respects. Extrapolate that progress out five-ten years from now, when our students enter the workplace, and it is not clear that any knowledge jobs will exist for humans to do! ATLP’s Futures Readiness framework gives students a terrific opportunity at being ready for a disrupted world, enabling them to find meaning and purpose, whatever their future roles may be.”
